Renewable Chemistries

At Acme-Hardesty, we go beyond offering traditional chemistries to our large customer base. We understand the growing need for renewable chemistries, and we also focus on offering bio-based oleochemicals that are renewable as well as sustainable. Our commitment to renewable chemistries dates back to the 1980s when we began importing palm-based fatty acids and castor oil derivatives. Examples of our selection of renewable chemicals include:

  • #1 Castor Oil: Castor oil is a natural product derived from the beans of the castor plant. Castor oil offers many industrial uses such as a corrosion inhibitor in metalworking fluids, defoamer and waterproofing additives in paper production and a lubricity additive in waxes.
  • Octyl Alcohol: Vegetable-based octyl alcohol is available in liquid and solid form. Our 98-percent pure octyl alcohol product serves functions such as acting as an intermediate in detergents and cleaners, an emulsifying agent in metalworking fluids and a starting material in various sulfates.
  • Coconut Fatty Acid: This veg-based renewable chemical contains no allergens, GMOs or BSE. Coconut fatty acid acts as a surfactant, emulsifier, cleansing agent and foam booster in soaps, bath products and various household and industrial cleaning products.
  • Distilled Tallow Fatty Acid: This tallow-based renewable chemical performs many useful functions including acting as an emollient, humectant, floating aid and gelling agent. Distilled tallow fatty acid also serves as a lubricity additive in greases and lubricants.
  • Glycerine 99.7%: Our 99.7-percent pure, palm-based glycerin product meets the criteria for a natural material in accordance with FDA guidelines. Examples of glycerine applications include use as an intermediate in soaps and detergents and a polyol in flexible foams and polyurethanes.
  • Palm Kernel Fatty Acid: Palm kernel fatty acid is an extremely versatile renewable chemical that can be used as a rust inhibitor and lubricating agent in metalworking fluids, a cleansing agent in personal care products and many other industrial manufacturing purposes.
  • Polyethylene Glycol (PEG): PEG is a polyether compound used in various manufacturing applications such as a viscosity modifier in soaps, a lubricant and softener in textiles and a base in numerous personal care products. Our bio-based PEG product is available in average dalton weights of 200, 300, 400 and 600.
