Cetyl alcohol is a long-chain fatty alcohol with 16 carbon atoms. It is also known as 1-hexadecanol, hexadecyl alcohol and, in its unsaturated form, palmityl alcohol. Cetyl alcohol has many potential uses, including as an opacifier, emollient, emulsifier or thickening agent.

As a leading producer of oleochemicals, Acme-Hardesty is your source for high-quality, vegetable-based cetyl alcohol. Keep reading to learn more.

Uses & Applications

Cetyl alcohol is used as an opacifier in the manufacture of shampoos and related products. You can also find it in lotions, skin creams and cosmetics, in which it acts as an emollient, emulsifier and thickening agent. Cetyl alcohol can also be used to lubricate nuts and bolts, as a nonionic surfactant in soaps and detergents, and in the processing of textiles.

In its natural state, cetyl alcohol is a colorless waxy solid with a mild odor. To support a wide range of potential uses, Acme-Hardesty cetyl alcohol is available in NF and kosher grades. We package the product in bags or isotanks and offer it in liquid and pastille form. Check out the cetyl alcohol spec sheet for more information.
